I’m told that in Australia you can plan an outdoor event weeks or even months in advance knowing the weather will be kind. Not so, here in Devon. So, my Pimms and Pasty evening for friends and neighbours had to be moved indoors – it was one of those days when the weather couldn’t make up its mind -  raining one minute and sunny the next. Lovely evening nonetheless and I am reminded of the joys of living in a small but lively community such as ours.  My new book is coming on well as I get to know the characters more and more and at least I can wallow in virtual sunshine as they are having great weather on their holiday!

Wonderful London long weekend. It started off with a visit to the Horse Guards Museum where I was persuaded to don a helmet with plume in the dressing up area.  It was very heavy and I couldn’t see a thing until I realised it was on back to front.  Giggling over, we were much more sedate over afternoon tea at the Ritz where even the Ladies Powder Room is glitzy enough for a photo opportunity. A visit next day to Portobello Road ended with us participating in a Chinese Tea Ceremony. We sampled a tea prepared for us with great care and served in tiny egg-cup size cups. By the time the cups had been re-filled with due reverence several times we had had a decent cup-full.   Lovely weekend but good to be back in the quiet of the Devon countryside after the hustle and bustle.
